Kulea Games is an independent game studio founded by a couple of creative folks with highly complementary skills and a lot of determination. We are joined by excellent advisers and staff who are making Kulea Games a trailblazer in the video game industry. There’s an estimated 2.3 million nonprofit organizations just in the United States, but there is only one Kulea Games in the entire world. That is why we are very selective about the organizations with which we choose to partner and develop a game. To learn more about us individually please keep reading.
Dr. Expatiate Expatriate
Doug has spent the better part of his life and career working with civil society on important issues and ways that individuals and groups can effectuate positive change. A recognized expert on parking, his Master’s thesis for the UCLA Urban Planning program explained how a civil society organization (CSO) worked to improve services and infrastructure in their neighborhood using dedicated parking meter revenue. His doctoral dissertation for the University of Michigan’s Urban and Regional Planning program looked closely at the attributes and actions that can make CSOs successful in sub-Saharan Africa’s transport sector. As a professional urban planner and consultant, he has worked with nonprofits of all sizes in developed and less-developed countries on issues such as air quality, climate change, community development, deforestation, energy, food security, and especially transportation.
In his spare time, Doug founded a local animal welfare group that led to an impressive menagerie of cats and dogs who now determine his off-duty schedule. He and his wife, Marion, have recently celebrated the birth of another little girl who will likely join the morning ritual of epic games of tag in pursuit of their fresh French pastries. Until then Doug will gather strength to chase after two active daughters. For a little "light" reading...
Free-Range Squirrel Herder
Leslie, with degrees in Photography, Fine Art and French, graduated with an MFA in Illustration at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. Exploring how to combine traditional artistic methods with ever emerging computer graphics and new media was just the challenge that brightened the long journey of her thesis.
Leslie has a simple life filled with a love for animals. She is rarely far from pen or pet and has spent many years as a volunteer photographer and graphic designer for animal shelters and other rescue groups. Even the neighborhood squirrels have names and race down the trees when called. The squirrels strike a pose for fruit and will stop to be sketched just for a nut or two. ( or three or four or more…)
Even though Leslie is classically trained to draw from life, she would be just as happy drawing imaginative characters, fuzzy critters or weird typography waltzing in whimsical compositions throughout her sketchbooks than anything else. (And if you nap in her presence she will draw you. She just can’t help it.) She has held steadfast to the habit of carrying a sketchbook wherever she goes...along with a camera, paint, brushes, pens, glue and collected ephemera. She used to think she traveled light but with all her art supplies and six dogs, Leslie never forgets to travel with her very understanding and strong husband. For a sketchy adventure...
Eric started programming computer games back in elementary school. Undeterred by the teachers who didnÕt understand any of the BASIC manuals he wrote in his 4th grade free-writing exercises, he eventually went on to study Computer Science at the University of California at San Diego. He began his professional software career in the online-music space at MP3.com and Vivendi Universal. Currently in New York City, when he is not training for marathons or playing with open-source physics engines, he designs and develops large-scale software for an investment management firm.

Musical Man of Mystery
